Cure Parkinson’s would like to say a huge thank you to supporters Georgie and Matt (pictured below), who completed their incredible challenge of running, cycling and swimming the equivalent 1,350km distance from John O’Groats to Calais around their local area from the 29 May – 28 June to raise vital funds and awareness of Cure Parkinson’s pioneering Parkinson’s research.

Due to take part in the 2020 London Triathlon this August, Georgie and Matt’s determination to fundraise was not deterred when the event was cancelled because of COVID-19. Instead of postponing, the pair chose to brave an even greater challenge, attempting to run, cycle and swim the equivalent distance between John O’Groats and Calais around their local area throughout the month of June while working full-time from home! This involved a grand total of 24 hours of running, 55 hours of cycling and 19 hours of swimming – a truly amazing achievement!

Raising funds for Cure Parkinson’s was very important for Georgie and Matt as both of their lives have been touched by Parkinson’s. Georgie’s mother and Matt’s paternal grandfather have the condition, while Matt’s maternal grandmother has also been recently diagnosed. They said:

Our motivation was simple: both of our families have been affected by Parkinson’s and life would be much easier with a cure. As Cure Parkinson’s does indeed focus on a cure, it was an obvious choice of charity to support.

Georgie and Matt’s triathlon-inspired challenge becomes even more incredible as they have not only smashed one, but two of their fundraising targets! Originally setting out to raise £2,500, the pair have now raised over £5,500! Cure Parkinson’s would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to both Georgie and Matt, for their dedication and inspiring fundraising efforts helping to raise much needed awareness and funds for Parkinson’s research.
