The London Marathon is one of the World’s most iconic marathons. Its course, crowds and atmosphere are legendary!

If you’ve ever wondered how it all works and imagined yourself lining up at the famous start line in Greenwich as part of Team Cure Parkinson’s, we’ve put together some of the most frequently asked questions we get asked every year from runners.

What is the difference between a ballot place and a charity place?

A ballot place is one that you have secured yourself directly with London Marathon Events through the ballot or ‘best for age’ system. If you have one of these places we simply ask that you raise what you can.

A charity place is one which Cure Parkinson’s has purchased and decides to allocate to you. If you have one of these places, we ask that you raise £2,500 excluding Gift Aid to support our ground-breaking Parkinson’s research.

Why does Cure Parkinson’s ask for a minimum sponsorship for charity places?

Cure Parkinson’s receives only a small number of Virgin Money London Marathon places each year and we receive three applications per place.

There is a significant cost attached to each place the charity receives which is why we ask for a minimum sponsorship of £2,500 per person.

This ensures that we cover our costs whilst raising as much as possible to fund research to find a cure for Parkinson’s.

When do I have to reach my £2,500 fundraising target?

As soon as possible! We find the earlier our runners start fundraising, the more they are able to raise. It also means they are able to focus on training in the final months running up to the big day.

We do ask that you raise the full amount two months after the event.

What if I am unable to meet the £2,500 fundraising target?

Our runners are always surprised how achievable the fundraising target is. Remember that we are here to support you and our team of friendly fundraisers are only a phone call or email away!

If you are struggling to raise the fundraising target, we recommend that you let us know straight away. That way we will be able to help you or, if necessary, give your charity place to someone on our waiting list.

What if I am injured and am unable to train or take part?

If you have an injury please let us know as soon as possible. One of our fundraisers will walk you through the various options available to you.

COVID-19

We are asking all our supporters to follow the current government guidelines with all training and fundraising activities for the 2022 TCS London Marathon
