Cure Parkinson’s Fundraising Heroes: December 2023
To mark the start of a new year, we’re looking back at some fundraising heroes who completed long-term fundraising challenges in support of our research.
From bake sales to big events, individual challenges to team efforts, these exceptional fundraisers all raised valuable awareness of the condition and an incredible amount in support of our research.
Community fundraising:
The U13 Otley Zebras focused on community fundraising in 2023. The young rugby team organised bag packs, raffles, cake sales, craft stalls and quiz nights; all of which were hugely popular within their local community. As well as raising crucial awareness of the condition and the charity, the U13’s team raised an incredible £10,300 in support of our research over the year.
Team events:
Parkinson’s fundraising and support group, Positively Parkinson’s, created a unique triathlon-style challenge spread out over the year. Their Big Tri involved a Big Swim (a relay swim around the Isle of Wight), a Big Bike (two members cycled the iconic John O’Groats to Land’s End route), and a Big Hike (up Mount Snowdon in Wales)! Together the team raised a phenomenal £127,500 in support of Cure Parkinson’s.
Individual challenge:
Longtime Cure Parkinson’s supporter Antony Rose created his own challenge dubbed the ‘50 mile slam’ which involved running four, 50 mile Centurion Races between April and September. Antony lives with Parkinson’s and first attempted to complete this ‘50 mile slam’ back in 2017, but had to pause the challenge due to the impact the then undiagnosed condition was having on his health. This time he was thrilled to complete his challenge and raise nearly £2,000 for our research.
A huge thank you to everyone who raised funds and awareness for Cure Parkinson’s in 2023!
