Fundraising heroes and awards
November’s fundraising heroes
At just seven years old, Emily walked a half marathon to raise funds and awareness for us – that’s an incredible 21km in one day! The half marathon walk took Emily over four hours to complete – and included a couple of difficult hills along the way – but she took it all in her stride with a big smile on her face. Emily was determined to raise funds in support of our research as Parkinson’s is a cause close to her heart, and she managed to smash her fundraising target too.
Meanwhile, 74 year old Maura was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 10 years ago and despite living with the progressive condition, she recently cycled 100km across the desert in Jordan! Maura tackled the challenge on a tandem bicycle (which she rode with her son Johnny) and was supported by 20 other cycling fundraisers on the epic two day journey starting in Petra and ending in Wadi Rum. A keen fundraiser and advocate for the Parkinson’s community, Maura previously raised funds for us back in 2019 when she climbed Mount Fuji in Japan, and was the winner of our Fundraising Hero award that same year.

We also wanted to thank everyone who attended our annual Tom Isaacs Golf Day and helped raise over £12,900 for us! Held at the wonderful Denham Golf Club, 20 teams of four played a fourball stableford with prizes given out to the winners and runners up, as well as for the Straightest Drive and Nearest the Pin. The runners up were the SB Allstars, and the winning team was The Chairman’s Fourball captained by none other than Will Cook, Cure Parkinson’s Chair of the Development Board and former CEO. The Chairman’s Fourball received the Tom Isaacs Inspirational Trophy for their win.
