The US National Institute of Health (NIH) have recently announced the opening of a vast new data portal for Parkinson’s research.

It is part of the Accelerating Medicines Partnership for Parkinson’s, or AMP-PD initiative.

AMP-PD is a huge collaborative effort between the NIH and multiple biopharmaceutical/life sciences companies and non-profit organisations. The new data portal will allow researchers access to information on ‘well characterised cohorts with existing biosamples and clinical data’ as well as data from previous clinical trials.

The goal of the AMP-PD effort is to identify and validate diagnostic, prognostic and progression biomarkers which will hopefully accelerate the development of novel disease modifying therapies for Parkinson’s.
